The innagural Sunset Sessions Rock! event at La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, CA, was a music-filled weekend that reminded participants of the breadth and width of the genre. Performances, informative panels and listening parties throughout the weekend allow radio programmers, music supervisors and other industry professionals the opportunity to learn about new acts that are not yet on the tips of everyone’s tongue, and the outdoors environment encouraged networking.
Los Angeles Chapter Project Manager Megan Doheny and Project Coordinator Daniel Mendoza attended the weekend and continued The Academy’s indie outreach. Attendees learned more about The Academy, how being a member would be beneficial in their professional careers, and the support offered by MusiCares.
Performance highlights included Bushwalla, Latin crooner Alex Cuba (53rd GRAMMY Awards Nominee for Best Latin Pop Album and 11th Annual Latin GRAMMY Award winner for Best New Artist), Deadlies, GIVERS, Evan Watson and Wedding.
The Chapter would like to extend a special thanks to the event’s founder and producer, Michele Clark, for inviting us to participate in Sunset Sessions Rock! 2011 and for all the fantastic music showcased throughout the event.
Sunset Sessions will have their next weekend in February 2012. They are working with The Academy to develop an contest opportunity for GRAMMY U bands to complete for a spot to perform in the late night lounge. For more information about Sunset Sessions, visit: www.sunsetsessions.org.
