On June 3rd, Jennifer Czeisler stopped by the PNW Chapter Office to talk to Grammy U students about her role as Vice President of Licensing at Sub Pop Records.  The interview was led by PNW Chapter Executive Director Ben London and focused mostly on licensing and the technicalities of publishing and royalties. While studying law at the University of Washington she got an internship at Sub Pop Records buts told that there was no space at Sub Pop for another lawyer and so she should not expect to be offered a job once she was done with her internship. Durig her first summer working there, Sub Pop got the soundtrack rights for the movie Hype, a documentary about the nineties grunge explosion in Seattle. Jennifer was assigned to handle the music licenses and did so well that Sub Pop decided to hire her full time. She is the now the Vice President of Licensing.
During the interview Jennifer discussed how things had changed over the last ten plus years at Sub Pop and how she perceives licensing music and intellectual property as a new and exciting opportunity for artists as record sales dwindle.  At the end of the evening students also had an opportunity to meet Jennifer one-on-one and ask her any questions they may have.
