Networking Mixer Heats Up McAllen
On Tuesday, August 30 The Texas Chapter presented In The Mix With The GRAMMYs, hosted by McAllen’s Heart Of The City, at the entertainment district’s hot spot, Frida’s in McAllen, Texas. Heart Of The City,a not-for-profit organization focused on sustaining and enhancing a vibrant, viable and healthy urban core through private and public investments in McAllen, paved the way for the Texas Chapter to outreach to the music community with utmost hospitality. In an effort to create awareness about the benefits of membership with The Recording Academy for music professionals, The Texas Chapter held this event for area musicians, performers, music professionals, and college students pursuing a career in music. Guests arrived to an elegantly decorated atmosphere with music, mingling, and a delicious spread of Frida’s finest menu choices.
Attendees had the opportunity to talk with Academy staff and elected leaders about getting involved in the GRAMMY Awards process, music advocacy initiatives, as well as programs and events produced by the Texas Chapter that are geared toward the music professional. Texas Chapter Senior Executive Director, Theresa Jenkins, Chapter Governor and GRAMMY-winning producer/engineer, Gilbert Velasquez, and Chapter Advisor and publisher, Carlos Alvarez, discussed one-on-one with musicians and other music professionals the benefits of membership and the needs of the McAllen music community.
The networking mixer was an incredible success, engaging the McAllen music community by answering questions, discussing opportunities, and building relationships with the thriving Latin music community in McAllen. The event concluded with over 20 new memberships, which continues to increase. We would like to specially thank Heart Of The City for hosting the event with pure seamlessness, as well as Frida’s for providing their venue and wonderful catering, and to Block Productions for producing a quality line up of entertainment for the evening. Without the support and connection of these McAllen community leaders, the event would not have been the great success that it was. The Texas Chapter is truly inspired by strong communities such as McAllen.
