RECAP: Up Close + Personal with Marsha Ambrosius

On Thursday, April 28 The Recording Academy New York Chapter witnessed the force that is Marsha Ambrosius who is currently enjoying the success of her solo debut album Late Nights & Early Mornings.

In a live Q+A and performance moderated by celebrity DJ and BLACK GIRLS ROCK! founder Beverly Bond the J Records Songstress shared with the membership the inspiration behind her first debut album, joining Keyshia Cole and R. Kelly on his upcoming “Love Letter” tour, penning a hit for the great Michael Jackson, and future plans for her solo career.

While seated at a baby grand piano and reminiscing on her days as one half of the R+B soul duo Floetry, Marsha gave accounts of her earlier days in her native London and U.S. home of Philly. She took the New York Chapter through the songwriting process of and played some of her most noted tracks including “Butterflies”, written for Michael Jackson, “Getting Late”, “Far Away”, “Late Nights & Early Mornings”, and “Say Yes” where she says, “The melody for this song was me hearing these few keys [on the piano] and I said ‘Just loop that, just that part!” She even added her own twist to an old worldwide favorite and prompted Beverly Bond to say, “If you have a birthday coming up please tell everyone you know Marsha Ambrosius just sang “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” to you!”
