GRAMMY Professional Development Series: In the Studio – The Art of the Craft
On Tuesday, May 24th, we gathered in one of New York City’s premiere recording facilities, MSR Studios www.msrstudiosny.com for the fifth installment in a series of events presented in actual recording studios. This event featured GRAMMY Award winning engineer, Dave O’Donnell.
Dave demonstrated and provided an insightful look into the mixing process using Pro-Tools software. He shared with the attendees his approach in mixing songs for the legendary recording artist James Taylor and Rykodisc’s Megan McCormick, as he worked both inside and outside of “the box”. And, he offered practical advice for both analog and digital mixing.
In addition, two members of the audience had the opportunity to sit alongside Dave at the mixing board, while he provided on-the-spot feedback of their very own original recording.
Under Dave’s guidance, we witnessed a hands-on demonstration interwoven with thought provoking dialogue via Q&A throughout the event.
