"Opportunities Available Online: Does Your Music Feel Free?”
As one panelist put it...“the sale of digital music is going up and physical product is going down.” This statement set the stage as speakers from eMusic (Rob Wetstone), IODA (Erik Gilbert), Rhapsody (Adam Parness) and Sony/ATV (Sean Melia), and moderated by artist manager, Paul Adams (Magus Entertainment), demystified how artists get paid and how to use the information provided by subscribers to their advantage, no matter what the business model.
We all know that consumers have limited spening money, that being said, while each distributor's business model is different, they all agree using an aggregator helps artists get their music heard and works to follow the dollar. Aggregators also need to have a pulse on what's happening and they need to be five steps ahead of what's changing in the business.
Note to artists: you still need to fight for public awareness, but now you have more opportunites by distributing your music on as many sites as possible. The bigger the bang, the more beneificial to you!
