In a letter from Philadelphia Orchestra President and CEO Allison Vulgamore, the organization announced its appointment of Yannick Nézet-Séguin as music director. The Philadelphia Chapter congratulates Nézet-Séguin on his new role and looks forward to his positive influence on Philadelphia Orchestra seasons to come. Read Vulgamore's letter below:

I am honored to share with you the exciting news that Yannick Nézet-Séguin has been appointed the next Music Director of The Philadelphia Orchestra. Yannick joins our leadership team immediately, assuming the title and role of Music Director Designate for two seasons, and he will take on the full role of Music Director in the 2012-13 season.

I am also pleased that we will honor Chief Conductor Charles Dutoit's 30-year musical partnership and association with this Orchestra by bestowing upon him the title Conductor Laureate, extending our strong and steadfast relationship.

One of the most well-respected and sought-after young conductors on today’s international classical music scene, Yannick has been widely praised by audiences, critics, and artists alike for his musicianship, dedication, and charisma. Since his debut performances with The Philadelphia Orchestra in 2008 it was clear that he had a vibrant, almost magical connection with our great musicians. As Yannick continues to captivate audiences around the world, we are thrilled and proud that he will now call Philadelphia one of his musical homes.

As members of our Orchestra family, you're invited to welcome Yannick to our great city this Friday, when he makes his first post-appointment trip to Philadelphia. All are invited to greet him at noon in Commonwealth Plaza at the Kimmel Center as he kicks off a day-long tour of the city.

Learn more about your new Music Director by visiting a special website dedicated to Yannick, www.philorch.org/yns. Visit the site for updates about Friday's events. As a celebratory offer, if you join us on Friday at the Kimmel Center, you can subscribe to a special series which includes two concerts with Yannick!

I am truly excited for The Philadelphia Orchestra’s new partnership with Yannick, a great musician and human being. His exceptional artistry and strong connection with our musicians combines in rich and impactful performances, and his contagious love of music endears him to our audiences and community. You can hear what everyone is raving about when Yannick returns to conduct the Orchestra on October 29-31, and January 6-8.

Please join me in welcoming Yannick to Philadelphia, a musical home which will flourish with his leadership.

Yours in Music,

Allison Vulgamore
