Philadelphia - The Sound of Philadelphia

The Recording Academy Philadelphia Chapter is excited to share with you the thoughts and ideas that our members have shared with us about our Chapter and The Recording Academy. Voting, Associate, and GRAMMY U members alike often give us great feedback that we believe can become a sounding board for new and exciting ideas that can bring us even closer together as a community.

“In 1999 when I joined I thought it was enough to, like the James Brown sampled song, "Get Up, Get Into It, " but I'd forgotten the last, and most important line of the title, "Get Involved!” … In 2010 alone, The Producers & Engineers Wing events have changed the sound of my current recordings with tips from my peers.
This year also provided me with the opportunity to participate in GRAMMYs On The Hill in Washington, D.C. on April 15th. We lobbied for the Performance Rights Act and to reserve space in the wireless frequencies we use for wireless mics. We sat at the table with senators’ aides and in some cases, with the senators themselves to give them a perspective from the music community on these important issues to us. The Performance Rights Act is a passion of mine since I have family members in the business that would benefit most from its passing.  In most cases the reps had only heard one side of the story, the opposing side. So, it was crucial that we provided legislators with the input from the music community, which is also part of the larger community that put them in office. In short, I felt like I had made an impact, directly."
