The Recording Academy At SXSW Miles Kurosky Showcase

In Austin, Texas you can find venues all over the city during South by Southwest. At the request of Kenny Schnurstein, manager for Miles Kurosky, I left the dense haze that is 6th Street and headed to the South Congress part of town to catch Miles showcase at Homeslice Pizza. I caught a bicycle taxi, an ingenious Austin transportation mode, and upon approaching this neighborhood, immediately felt a completely different vibe to what I had just left. While 6th Street is frenetic, South Congress has this local, laid-back feel to it, gelling well with my San Franciscan sensibilities.

A San Francisco native and former lead of Beulah, Kurosky has ventured out on his own showcasing songs off of his debut solo album, The Desert Of Shallow Effects. The title is appropriate as the songs have this long distance, gaze-y feel to them. The songwriting is intriguing and the melodies rich and complex. Although the showcase leaned heavily on Beulah tunes, one trip through The Desert Of Shallow Effects and it is easy to see that the songs could have just as easily stood on their own. Watch Kurosky’s latest music video, "Dog In The Burning Building" here.

Kurosky is currently on tour. Catch him live, performing in the following Chapter cities:

April 7 Los Angeles — The Echo
April 8 San Francisco — Bottom Of The Hill
April 10 Seattle — The Tractor
