Letter from Nancy Shapiro, Vice President, Member Services, The Recording Academy

The Recording Academy's elected leaders and staff are continuously evaluating how we, as an Academy, can improve our business and continue finding ways to better serve our members. A little more than two years ago we conducted an extensive member survey, and one of the things we heard from our members was a desire for more membership events, programs and services. In light of this we are pleased to announce that The Recording Academy Washington, D.C. Chapter will now be a virtual office and this new model will expand Chapter resources, allowing the Chapter to offer members even more programs and services throughout the year including professional education and networking events, health and human services, advocacy initiatives, and music education programs — all while continuing to serve and connect the music communities of Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C. and West Virginia. This new model has been highly successful for the Memphis Chapter, allowing it to expand and diversify its outreach and services to its membership and local community.

Having served the D.C. Chapter for the past four years, most recently as Sr. Project Manager, Wendi Cherry has been promoted to Executive Director of the Chapter and may still be reached via email at the same email address. Through her leadership, Cherry will continue to serve the local music community and shortly she will announce a new Administrative Coordinator. The Chapter phone number remains the same (202.662.1341) and as of January 31, 2012, the Chapter's mailing address will be: 211 E. Lombard St., Suite #259, Baltimore, MD 21202. Thanks to the continued commitment and support of the Law Offices of Greenberg Traurig, regularly scheduled Chapter Board Meetings will continue as planned in their Board Room. Elected leaders will continue to meet and discuss the Chapter's business needs and how to further its goals, outreach and services.

The Chapter will continue to address the diverse needs of the local music community by presenting regularly scheduled member-specific networking opportunities — including the upcoming 54th GRAMMY Awards Viewing Party on February 12 at BarCode.

Additional events will be announced shortly and for more details and updates, please visit the Washington, D.C. Chapter page on GRAMMY365.com (www.grammy365.com/chapters/washington-dc-chapter).

Thank you for your continued membership and support, and we look forward to seeing you at one of the upcoming Washington, D.C. Chapter events. Here's to another year of great music, and best wishes for a productive and prosperous 2012.
