Texas Chapter staff attended the 2010 Tejano Music Convention this weekend in San Antonio and had a great time listening to all of the great music and meeting new artists from all over the U.S. On Friday, we attended the Tejano Town Hall where local musicians had the opportunity to voice their concerns about radio airplay, labels, promotion of Tejano music and the overall unity of Tejano artists. Panelists included up and coming artists as well as established musicians, radio broadcasters, Public Relations specialists, and promoters.
On Friday evening, the Gran Baile took place at the H.B. Gonzalez Convention Center. Music was playing and people were dancing all night to artists such as Ram Herrera & The Outlaws, Hometown Boys with Linda Escobar and Michael Salgado.
The weekend’s festivities continued on Saturday with the all-day Tejano Experience USA Fanfare and Expo. Over 60 Tejano artists and groups were in attendance – they met their fans, signed autographs and took pictures. Various stages were set up throughout the convention center where bands played music all day. This weekend was full of fun for all – artists and fans.
The Academy’s presence demonstrated to Tejano artists that we are here to support them and their music. Chapter staff spoke to artists about the benefits the Academy offers and made sure they were aware of dual membership. The Recording Academy also hosted a VIP Reception prior to the Tejano Awards Show.
