San Francisco – GRAMMY Career Day a Success

The San Francisco Chapter was thrilled to partner once again with the GRAMMY Foundation in order to produce GRAMMY Career Day, on Wednesday, January 12 at San Francisco State University. The day-long signature music educational event drew more than 700 high-school music students from around the Bay Area (and as far away as Reno, NV) for the chance to learn about music and careers in the field from some of the best in the local industry.

The event featured performances by indie-rock phenomenon Thao Nguyen as well as PopLyfe, which features the teenage son of Tony Toni Tone legend, D’Wayne Wiggins. There were 17 workshops ranging from “Jazz Vocals” with Kitty Margolis and Frank Martin to “Careers in Video Games” with Lucasfilm’s David Collins and Shiloh Hobel from Ex’pression College of Digital Arts. Khalil Shaheed (pictured above) led the day's "Jazz Band and Improvisation" workshop.

A special note of thanks to all of the sponsors who made the day possible, including The GRAMMY Foundation, San Francisco State University, Meyer Sound, Converse, Hot Topic Foundation, Best Buy and First Student Charter Bus Rental. This very memorable event simply would not have been possible without you.
