On November 17, 15 GRAMMY U members and 8 Santa Rosa High School ArtQuest students gathered at The Fillmore in San Francisco for a GRAMMY Camp - SoundChecks with The Civil Wars. Waiting patiently outside the venue to see the magnificent duo face to face, members entered the venue where students got to enjoy a live sound check.

Following The Civil War's sound check and after getting a behind the scenes look into how sound is conducted inside The Fillmore, GRAMMY U members made their way upstairs into the Poster Room for an exclusive Q&A session with the group and their team.

After introductions were made, the Q&A session began with a little history lesson of how The Civil Wars came to be -- a local Northern California girl leaving her roots to make music in Nashville where she met her songwriting counterpart. Joy Williams and John Paul White released their first full length album Barton Hollow this year, which features their hit song Poison and Wine.

Through the duration of the Q&A, GRAMMY U members and Santa Rosa High School students learned about songwriting techniques, life in the studio, and life on tour. Upon the closing of the Q&A, members posed with The Civil Wars for a group picture and said their goodbyes. Students walked away with an unforgettable experience and some great advice on what direction they should take in their music career. A big thank you to the GRAMMY Foundation and The Civil Wars and their team for making this event possible.
