San Francisco - GRAMMY Camp: SoundChecks With My Morning Jacket

San Francisco Chapter's picture

On December 2, 16 GRAMMY U student members gathered at the historical Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco for a GRAMMY Camp - SoundChecks with My Morning Jacket. Waiting patiently outside the venue to see the recently GRAMMY-nominated group, members entered the venue and got to enjoy a live sound check and a short 5 song set.

Following the My Morning Jacket sound check, the students gathered into the lounge where they had the opportunity to meet the group and participate in a Q&A session.

After introductions were made, GRAMMY U members quickly learned the group’s history, their roles in the band, and how My Morning Jacket came to be. Throughout the duration of the Q&A, attendees learned about life on the road and how to self promote and market yourself as an independent artist. My Morning Jacket also spoke to members about their strongest supporters while on the road to becoming nationally recognized group, and even talked about some of their favorite venues they've played across the country -- one being the historical Fillmore in San Francisco.

In addition to meeting the band, attendees had the chance to meet the band’s Monitor Engineer, Brent Lind, where he talked to students about his current and previous experiences with artists and different careers in live sound.

Upon the closing of the Q&A, members posed with My Morning Jacket for a group picture and said their goodbyes. Students walked away with an unforgettable experience and some great advice on what direction they should take in their music career. A big thank you to the GRAMMY Foundation and My Morning Jacket and their team for making this event possible.
