Brad Dollar - Music Production Engineer

San Francisco Governor

Who is someone you would like to work with and why?

Jack White. I feel like we share a lot of the same ideas about recording music & not over-producing the magic out of the moment, while still remaining creative.

How does a band or artist become a brand?

When they start owning who they are & what they do, regardless of what they believe outside perception is.

What’s the best part about the San Francisco music scene?

That a free-spirited mentality drives so much of our music, regardless of genre. Artists, producers & engineers in the Bay Area do nothing less than exactly what they want.

What artist or band should people know right now?

Just one?! How about: Jeff the Brotherhood, Ghost & Gale, White Denim, Lana Del Ray, Repeater Pan, The Stone Foxes, Clear Soul Forces.

What book would you recommend as a must read for someone?

Temples of Sound by Jim Cogan. It's an excellent summary of all the great American recording studios. In vibrant detail, it explains our music industry's history from an intimate fly-on-the-wall perspective.

What advice would you give to a young artist just starting out in the music business?

Don't be afraid & jump in! The water is much warmer than you think.

What Social Networking sites do you use the most?

Instagram, exclusively. It forces the user to use their eyes & sense of creativity to relay ideas & information, as opposed to monotonous jibberish.

What are your favorite performance venues in San Francisco?

Bottom of the Hill will always have a soft spot in my heart. The Independent is pretty awesome, too.
