Santa Monica - GRAMMY Block Party

1000+ Recording Academy members, their families and guests came out to enjoy a balmy afternoon of music, food and fun at the LA Chapter’s first annual GRAMMY Block Party in Santa Monica. Beach chairs and blankets in hand, members and their guests took over the Lantana Entertainment Media Campus grounds -- appreciating the chance to see old friends, make some new friends and enjoy the festive ambiance in their Academy home’s backyard.
It was also a cool opportunity for LA Chapter members to give back by supporting their sister Chapter in Nashville. The event raised over $30,000 for MusiCares® Nashville Flood Relief, established by The Academy and MusiCares in response to the devastating floods that hit Nashville this spring.
Recording artists AkaCassidy, Charice and Chuck Wicks jammed with Music Director (and former LAC Trustee) Rickey Minor and his “Tonight Show” band. La Santa Cecilia and GRAMMY Award winner Raphael Saadiq also had super hot sets -- wowing the crowd with their dynamic, high-energy performances throughout the afternoon. By the end of the evening, Raphael and his band had everyone on their feet groovin’ and a group of young ladies were doing the “Electric Slide.” It was a powerful moment that captured the joyous, unifying spirit of the day. All of the artists performed gratis in support of the cause too.
The LA Chapter’s GRAMMY Block Party couldn’t have been possible, without the incredibly generous support of our corporate sponsors: The Disney Channel, Levitt Pavilions, SESAC, ASCAP, Concord Music Group, Roc Nation and Universal Pictures, as well as our in-kind sponsors: Coca-Cola, Coldstone Creamery, Conjure Cognac, Fiji Water, Heineken, Honest Tea, L.A. Farm, W Hotels, Wendy Rhodes Events and Whole Foods.
To everyone involved, on behalf of West Regional Director Lizzy Moore, Chapter President Mike Knobloch and the Los Angeles Chapter Board and staff, thank you for helping to ensure that our first annual GRAMMY Block Party ROCKED.
