South Texas Students Up Close With Juanes

The Texas Chapter and the GRAMMY Foundation hosted a GRAMMY SoundChecks with Juanes in Houston and Hidalgo, Texas on March 30 and 31.
In Houston, 40 students from the LBJ High School Marching band and The "Pancho Claus Art and Education Project" attended the GRAMMY SoundChecks at the Toyota Center. The following day, a group of 40 students from Hidalgo High School and the Hermes Music Foundation attended the GRAMMY SoundChecks in Hidalgo at the State Farm Arena.
These South Texas SoundChecks were held in both English and Spanish. Juanes enthusiastically greeted all students as he jumped on stage to begin sound checking with his band. He took a few minutes to explain to the students about the process of a sound check: checking in-ear monitors, line checking, running through songs, and more. While going through his pre-show routine, he engaged the students by asking them to sing along with the chorus of his songs. As Juanes concluded his sound check, he walked off the stage and greeted each student with a handshake. He answered questions from the eager students about his music influences, his decision to pursue music as a career, and how he maintains his singing voice through a long tour. When the Q&A session concluded, Juanes gathered with the students for a group picture.
Although students were already ecstatic about this once in a lifetime opportunity, the sound check wasn’t it! Shortly after Juanes departed, his management presented the group of students in each city with tickets to attend his show that evening!
We would like to thank Juanes and his management for their generosity and the amazing opportunity they provided for students in South Texas. Muchas gracias!
