On Nov. 10 local high school and GRAMMY U students attended a GRAMMY SoundChecks with the rock band Shinedown at the Warner Theater. Students got the exclusive opportunity to watch and hear the band warm up for their concert to be held that night. The band members asked for audience feedback and explained how much they valued their fans, stating that they only had one boss and that was the fans. Shinedown band members and technical staff answered questions about how they got their start in the music business and the steps they took to be successful. Students from Mt. Vernon High School’s music program wrote essays about the Shinedown song they most related to. Two students read their essay to the band and shared their personal stories as to how the band’s songs helped them get through a tough moment in their life. Shinedown emphasized that they want their music to be relatable and something real for their audience. They also stressed to students that in the music industry, you need to hustle and take advantage of every resource that could get you noticed within the music industry.

After the Q & A, the band signed posters, shook every student’s hand, and took pictures. The highlight of the evening was when students were given tickets to the show. Shinedown definitely showed that they have talent and are just a chill group of guys.
