Join GRAMMY U for a career day with discussions and workshops covering a variety of fields within the industry at GRAMMY U’s premier event! Led by industry professionals, this incredible opportunity is a MUST ATTEND event for college students who want to take their education to the next level! The event concludes with food, live music, and networking at the Wrap Party!

Keynote Speaker- Louis Messina

This year’s keynote speaker, Louis Messina, was described by Billboard as “one of the nation's most successful concert promoters, and his storied career reflects the evolution of the live music industry over four decades.” He has worked in the music industry for 40 years and in 2001 founded the world renowned Messina Group. The Messina Group is a fully integrated partner of AEG Live.  Over the past ten years, The Messina Group has promoted the tours of country heavy-hitters such as George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Taylor Swift, Dixie Chicks, and Nickelback. The Messina Group has also produced over 500 club shows in Houston, as well as special events such as the Jimmy Buffett , George Strait , Alan Jackson in venues such as Texas Stadium and the new Cowboys Stadium.

 Messina was the recipient of an Academy of Country Music nomination in 2000 for “Promoter of the Year” and went on to garner the title in 2002, 2006 and 2008.  He has received six nominations for “Promoter of the Year” from Pollstar and been awarded the coveted title of “Talent Buyer of the Year” by the International Entertainment Buyers Association.  In addition, Messina has received Performance Magazine’s “Promoter of the Year” award four times, served as a board member for both the CMA & ACM and as President of the North American Concert Promoter Association, and has been inducted into the Performance Magazine Touring Hall of Fame.


Students may choose 2 workshop sessions to attend. Workshop leaders will be posted at a later date, so stay tuned.

  • Publishing – Richard Perna

Whether you’re an aspiring music publisher or an artist yourself, you will benefit from learning the ins and outs of publishing including copyright, royalties, and licensing. Learn everything there is to know about how to make songwriters successful!

  • Live Recording – Malcolm Harper

Hop onboard Reedsound’s live recording truck where you will learn the basics of live recording, mixing, and mastering. Malcolm Harper will also conduct a basic hands-on walkthrough of the final live recording stages. This workshop is aimed towards students interested in music production/recording/engineering.

  • Demo Review – CJ Eiriksson

Think your music has what it takes to make the cut? Come test your skills by bringing a demo of your music to be heard by some of the industry’s most knowledgeable critics. They will listen and offer advice, constructive criticism, and their opinions on your work!

  • Finding Your Niche: Inside The Music Business  Merry Miller, Randy Miller, Chad Kudelka, David Messier 

This interactive workshop will provide break out sessions with each professional offering insight into the daily lives and careers of marketing, booking, A&R, management, and DIY strategies.

  • Jam Session: Music Performance – Rodney Alejandro, Mike Mordecai

This workshop will bring in two successful artists/musicians, Rodney Alejandro and Mike Mordecai, to give musicians and vocalists a hands-on approach to musical performance and improvisation technique. Get the opportunity to learn  by jamming with your own instruments and voices.

  •   On The One’s And Two’s - DJ Young Guru and DJ Protege   

Have you ever wondered what it takes to be a successful DJ? There is no one better to learn from than Jay Z’s DJ, Young Guru, along with Austin's DJ Protege who will offer invaluable insight on the art of spinning, new features and gear for the competitive DJ, and technique.

Wrap Party!

Close out the day and an awesome semester at the GRAMMY U: Summit Wrap Party. Network with fellow members, panelists and workshop leaders, enjoy food and beverages and listen to some live music provided by GRAMMY U bands.
