The New York Chapter will present “Up Close & Personal with GRAMMY winning producer Steve Lillywhite and moderated by Executive Vice President and Editorial Director of MTV Networks, Bill Flanagan.
Steve’s studio career started in 1972 in London. From his first hit with Siouxsie and the Banshees in 1978, he has produced hits for XTC, U2, Psychedelic Furs, Peter Gabriel, Simple Minds, Talking Heads, Rolling Stones, Morrissey, Travis, Phish, Dave Matthews Band, The La's, The Pogues, Kirsty MacColl, Counting Crows, Joan Armatrading, Chris Cornell, Crowded House, Big Country, Guster, Jason Mraz and the Thompson Twins. He has won multiple GRAMMY Awards, including Producer of the Year in 2006. Steve’s two most recent productions were Matchbox Twenty's “How Far We've Come,” most recently released 30 Seconds to Mars "This is War" and reunited with Phish for their latest project "Joy."
Bill Flanagan has created and produces series such as VH1 “Storytellers” and CMT “Crossroads”. He is also an on-air essayist on CBS News “Sunday Morning”, the Ombudsman of Sundance Channel’s “Spectacle: Elvis Costello With”… and the author of six books. His new novel, published this month, is Evening’s Empire.
Admission is FREE for Recording Academy members, non-member tickets are $30 each or free upon joining The Academy prior to the event.
